Keep Your Belongings Safe with Renters Insurance

Have you ever seen newscasts of people who had lost all of their belongings in an apartment fire? What would you do if something like that happened to you? I’m not saying that it’s a high chance that it would, but you know what they say, “better safe than sorry”. For your sake, renters insurance for your apartment would be a very wise investment.
Renters insurance is the easiest way to make the most out of your comfortable Southaven living. It protects your belongings against unforeseen disasters, and gives you a great peace of mind when they occur. If you haven’t thought about renters insurance for your apartment before, now is definitely the time.
If you have wisely invested in renters insurance, you don’t have much to worry about. Many
people don’t take advantage of renters insurance because of a common myth: the cost. Renters insurance is surprisingly inexpensive. For a small fee a month, normallybetween $10 and $20, you can save thousands of dollars in case you have to replace your belongings. In all honesty, I’d much rather pay about $10 a month than to pay over $200 to replace a lost television or over $500 for a new laptop.
Renters insurance also covers liability for anything you’re found negligent to have caused an accident or a fire. Basic renters insurance may run you as little as $100 a year. In my opinion, that’s a small price to pay for piece of mind and the reassurance of securing your precious belongings. This video shows what happens when people choose not to invest.
How do you get renters insurance? National insurance sites like State Farm and All State all carry policies. You can also visit the Church Lake Apartments leasing office, and they’ll be happy to get you on your way to a higher piece of mind in no time.
Ole Miss Rising Star: Jeremiah Masoli

The heat index was well over 100 degrees on Sunday, but the practice field at Ole Miss was even hotter. Over 400 people gathered around the practice field to see the University of Mississippi’s newest team member: Jeremiah Masoli.
Who is Jeremiah Masoli? He’s the former starting quarterback for Oregon, and on Sunday, he donned Ole Miss’ red and blue for the very first time. Masoli was kicked off of the Oregon team in June after two run-ins with the police, and has been accepted into an Ole Miss grad program. He is awaiting a waiver from the NCAA that will make him eligible for this season as a walk-on. This is a pretty big deal for everyone.
It was like a tennis match of epic performance; every time Masoli shuffled down the field, the crowds moved with him. In a brief summary of his performance, Masoli’s arm was strong, but his timing was a bit off. This is to be expected however; Masoli has to get used to new receivers.
Masoli isn’t a shoe in for the starting quarterback position however. Nathan Stanley is at the forefront right now, as his talents emerged from spring practice. He is more seasoned in the Rebels’ plays and terminology, so right now, he’s looking like the better choice (for obvious reasons). The thing is, Masoli has come down and showed out. He already has huddle presence, and is taking the snap naturally, even though he’s not familiar with the plays as of yet.
Maybe he’ll change it from a rebuilding year to one that will win at least 8 games? Only time will tell.
Are you a Rebels fan?
Ridiculous Weather in the Mid-South Region

I don’t get it; what have we done to make Mother Nature want to place us all in a week long sauna? I think that at some point during this week I’ll try that egg on the sidewalk trick. I wouldn’t eat it of course, but I’m sure I’ll have a perfectly sunny-side up egg in about 5 seconds. With that being said, the temperature will rise to about 100 degrees this week. And that, in my opinion, is utterly ridiculous.
So, to answer the question, ‘how hot is it?’, the heat combined with high humidity will drive the heat index up to 110-115 degrees most days this week, as reported by the National Weather Service. The temperature should peak above 100 degrees today, 102 on Tuesday, 103 on Wednesday and 100 on Thursday. You can’t even get relief when the sun goes down! It’s slated to be around 83 degrees this evening! Looks like we just can’t win.
Here are some quick tips to help you stay cool in this heat:
- Slow down, avoid strenuous activity
- Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing. Light colors will reflect heat and sunlight and help maintain normal body temperature. Protect your face with a wide-brimmed hat.
- Drink plenty of water regularly and often, even if you do not feel thirsty.
- Limit intake of alcoholic beverages. They can actually dehydrate you!
- Stay indoors as much as possible.
- 3:00 pm is the hottest part of the day, so avoid prolonged stays in the sun during this time.
Stay cool out there!

Support Autism Awareness; Vote for Justin’s Pizza!

There are many ways to support the various causes of the world. Some are more involved than others, while others dabble on the creative side. Creativity was the name of the game for DeSoto County resident, Wayne Bartley as he attempted to raise awareness and funds for his autistic son Justin, and autism in general.
So in what way did the Bartleys jump into the cause? Simple: pizza decorating. A Papa John’s in Hernando was hosting a ‘create your own pizza’ contest, that has raised a good amount of autism awareness, based off of Justin’s story alone. Bartley and his family created ‘Justin’s Perfect Puzzle Pizza‘. Some 6,500 people all over the country are hoping that Justin’s Perfect Puzzle Pizza will be on the menu at Papa John’s come August.
‘Justin’s Perfect Puzzle Pizza‘ contains grilled chicken, spicy Italian sausage, portobello mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, and the proprietary Papa John’s three-cheese blend, with bits of bacon sprinkled on top. His pizza joins thousands of others competing for a number one spot; semi-finalists will be announced soon.
The pizza that does the most in sales during the month of August will then be named the winner. So be sure to vote for and order Justin’s Pizza in order to spread his story and awareness.
How will you be contributing to the Autism Awareness fund? Well, if the Bartley family wins, Papa John’s will give them a ’slice of the pie’ which are proceeds of the sales from the pizza. The family has said that they will give half the money to autism research and the other half to Assists for Autism.
Besides, how can you resist Papa John’s?

For those of us that have canine companions, we know how important it is that they get adequate exercise, and are able to socialize with other dogs. An easy way to incorporate this into your lifestyle is to take your pet to a dog park. Now, there aren’t many dog parks in Southaven, but there are some in Memphis. If you would like your dog to become one with nature more close to home, you can take him/her to Olive Branch City Park. They have lots of open trails that your dog will be happy to sniff around.
There are certain things that you must keep in mind when taking your furry friend to a dog park or a park in general. You must rememeber to keep your dog in sight at all times. In such an atmosphere, there is the potential for your dog to cause problems that you might not notice if you allow yourself to disconnect from him/her while they are playing. Here are some tips to help remind your pet who the true Alpha is:
- Practice removing your dog from the area a few tips and have them sit or stay by your side for a while. This lets your dog know that you are still in control. Reward them by sending them back out to play.
- If you see aggression stirring, call your dog to you, and have them sit in a ‘time out’ of sorts.
- If you see your dog in danger or if they seemed to be incredibly fearful, remove your dog immediately and find another park.
Do you know of any other dog park safety tips?

3 Things Not to Say on a Job Interview

With the way that the job market is today, most people are ecstatic when they learn that they’ve been selected for a job interview. Little do they know, that’s the easy part. You have to be a knock out for employers to consider employing you these days, and what you say and how you act are HUGE contributing factors. Take note of these 3 things that you should not say on your interview:
- Don’t say: What are the hours like? or What’s the vacation policy?
- Why: You’re seen as focusing more on slacking off than working
- Say instead: “What’s the day-to-day like here?” Then, if you’ve really jumped through every hoop and time off still hasn’t been mentioned, say, “Can you tell me about the compensation and benefits package?”
- Don’t say: Do you think I’d fit in here?
- Why: I don’t know, do you?
- Say instead: What do you enjoy about working here? It shows you’re interested in the company.
- Don’t say: My current boss is horrible
- Why: This is a big no-no. It’s very unprofessional, and for all you know, your interviewer and your current boss may be good friends.
- Say instead: I’m ready for a new challenge, or something of the positive nature.
Glee goes Gaga

I have been trying to get Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” out of my head for weeks now. But with all of the parodies and internet videos, don’t forget to mention radio play, it’s near impossible. Now, one of my favorite TV shows, “Glee” is dedicating a show to Gaga. Title track? “Bad Romance”. I just can’t escape Church Lake…
Wedding Gift Q & A

I know, I know, it’s that season again. The season of the blushing brides wedding their handsome grooms. Candles, flowers, music, cake…weddings are truly a special time. When you think about it, wedding patrons are the ones who struggle the most; especially when it comes to deciding what kind of gift to buy.
Then come the questions: how much should I spend, will cash work as a gift, should I only buy what’s on the registry…the list could go on for miles. Well, I think that I can answer one question that has been plaguing the mind of the wedding bound: is there a standard price range that guests are supposed to spend?
There’s no perfect or proper amount of money to spend on a gift for any wedding guest and no one is obligated to give a certain type of gift, even from the registry. Make sure to stay within your means. Another tip is to use the happy couples registry as a guideline. That way you can judge their style and buy accordingly. I hope this helps!
Happy shopping!
