Church Lake Apartments

Have you ever seen newscasts of people who had lost all of their belongings in an apartment fire? What would you do if something like that happened to you? I’m not saying that it’s a high chance that it would, but you know what they say, “better safe than sorry”. For your sake, renters insurance for your apartment would be a very wise investment.

Renters insurance is the easiest way to make the most out of your comfortable Southaven living. It protects your belongings against unforeseen disasters, and gives you a great peace of mind when they occur. If you haven’t thought about renters insurance for your apartment before, now is definitely the time.

If you have wisely invested in renters insurance, you don’t have much to worry about. Many

people don’t take advantage of renters insurance because of a common myth: the cost. Renters insurance is surprisingly inexpensive. For a small fee a month, normallybetween $10 and $20, you can save thousands of dollars in case you have to replace your belongings. In all honesty, I’d much rather pay about $10 a month than to pay over $200 to replace a lost television or over $500 for a new laptop.

Renters insurance also covers liability for anything you’re found negligent to have caused an accident or a fire. Basic renters insurance may run you as little as $100 a year. In my opinion, that’s a small price to pay for piece of mind and the reassurance of securing your precious belongings. This video shows what happens when people choose not to invest.

How do you get renters insurance? National insurance sites like State Farm and All State all carry policies. You can also visit the Church Lake Apartments leasing office, and they’ll be happy to get you on your way to a higher piece of mind in no time.

Dress for Success for $10 or Less

Hey Church Lake! Are you still feeling the effects of the recession? Many people are, and certain events have been constructed to help you get through it, or still be able to enjoy yourselves without spending as much money as you may have in the past.

A big trend that I have seen as of late is fashion shows. These range from fashion shows consisting of clothing made entirely from manufactured goods, and shows where nothing is above $30. Well, residents of DeSoto County have added their own spin. The House of Grace Thrift Store Fashion Show will be held this Sunday at 2 pm at the DeSoto Assimilation Center in Southaven.

The theme of the show is ‘How to Dress for Success in $10 or Less’. While a thrift store throwing a fashion show is a completely new avenue for me, I can totally appreciate what they are doing.

Many people have a certain style that they’re used to. Even during recession times, they stick to that, no matter what the price is or was. What you may not know is that you can find the same kind of discounted fashions anywhere around town. TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Ross are very good examples of places where you can look good for

less. Thrift stores can sometimes be considered diamonds in the rough; on certain days you can find something really nice. :)

Admission for the fashion show is only $10. Refreshments and door prizes will be available. Even if you’re not looking for clothes to buy, I think it’d be an interesting show to see.

Directions to DeSoto Assimilation Center:

Head northwest on Church Lake Dr toward W Ross Pkwy. Turn right at W Ross Pkwy. Take the 1st left onto W Ross Parkway West. Turn right at US-51 N. Turn right at Whitworth St. Turn right at Main St/Stateline Rd W. Your destination will be on the right.

Fresh Produce, Fresh Air

Farmers' Market

It’s always a bargain to shop fresh produce. Not only are you supporting local growers, but you’re insuring that you’re not ingesting pesticides and other chemicals used to store produce during shipping. That’s why if you take a stroll through Hernando’s historic Town Square on Saturday mornings from now until fall, you’ll get more than you bargained for.

The Hernando Farmer’s market puts you face to face with local growers, and some of the freshest groceries that you could never hope to find in a supermarket. Unless it’s Whole Foods. :)

In addition to a host of fresh fruits and vegetables, the farmers market features canned items, knife sharpening, baked goods, herbs and bedding plants, jams and jellies, goat cheese and dairy fresh milk and eggs.

The Hernando Farmers Market isn’t only a place to shop. It’s a place to socialize, relax under shade trees in the beautiful square, or walk your dog.

You should make a trip down this Saturday and check it out for yourself!

3 Things Not to Say on a Job Interview

Job Interview

With the way that the job market is today, most people are ecstatic when they learn that they’ve been selected for a job interview. Little do they know, that’s the easy part. You have to be a knock out for employers to consider employing you these days, and what you say and how you act are HUGE contributing factors. Take note of these 3 things that you should not say on your interview:

  • Don’t say: What are the hours like? or What’s the vacation policy?
  • Why: You’re seen as focusing more on slacking off than working
  • Say instead: “What’s the day-to-day like here?” Then, if you’ve really jumped through every hoop and time off still hasn’t been mentioned, say, “Can you tell me about the compensation and benefits package?”
  • Don’t say: Do you think I’d fit in here?
  • Why: I don’t know, do you?
  • Say instead: What do you enjoy about working here? It shows you’re interested in the company.
  • Don’t say: My current boss is horrible
  • Why: This is a big no-no. It’s very unprofessional, and for all you know, your interviewer and your current boss may be good friends.
  • Say instead: I’m ready for a new challenge, or something of the positive nature.

Glee goes Gaga

I have been trying to get Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” out of my head for weeks now. But with all of the parodies and internet videos, don’t forget to mention radio play, it’s near impossible. Now, one of my favorite TV shows, “Glee” is dedicating a show to Gaga. Title track? “Bad Romance”. I just can’t escape Church Lake…

WALK FOR THE CURE

I think I’ve participated in Relay for Life at least 4 times in my lifetime. And I’ve enjoyed every second of it. :) My friends and sorority sisters and I would create teams, and collect a good amount of money to the cause. The walk that was held at my school’s track was fun as well; it was a good way for us all to bond, and we felt good knowing that we were immensely helping a cause. Every little step counts.

Now it’s your turn Church Lake; you and all of your DeSoto County brethren and beyond. The walk starts this Friday, May 21st at 6 pm.

After the walk, the American Cancer Society and the teams of the Relay for Life DeSoto County invite the public to the “Birthday Celebration” Friday at 6 p.m. at Southaven’s Snowden Grove Park.

The 12-hour event has fun, food, games and entertainment. Relayers and guests will walk the track all night to remember cancer victims and to celebrate life with cancer survivors.

Sign up is still possible. So whether you’re part of a team, need to join a team, are a survivor, know of survivors, or just want to donate for the cause it’s not too late. Sign up now!

It’s worth it, trust me. :)

Wedding Gift Q & A

Bridesmaids

Image via Wikipedia

I know, I know, it’s that season again. The season of the blushing brides wedding their handsome grooms. Candles, flowers, music, cake…weddings are truly a special time. When you think about it, wedding patrons are the ones who struggle the most; especially when it comes to deciding what kind of gift to buy.

Then come the questions: how much should I spend, will cash work as a gift, should I only buy what’s on the registry…the list could go on for miles. Well, I think that I can answer one question that has been plaguing the mind of the wedding bound: is there a standard price range that guests are supposed to spend?

There’s no perfect or proper amount of money to spend on a gift for any wedding guest and no one is obligated to give a certain type of gift, even from the registry. Make sure to stay within your means. Another tip is to use the happy couples registry as a guideline. That way you can judge their style and buy accordingly. I hope this helps!

Happy shopping!
